Biography
You’re not broken — you’re just carrying more than most people can see.
Life can often feel like a constant state of "high alert." Whether you are navigating the looping thoughts of anxiety and OCD, the heavy weight of trauma, or a persistent inner critic, Alex Gay provides a space to move from surviving to thriving. As a Licensed Professional Counselor in Illinois, Alex is dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s complexities with compassion, clarity, and a focus on deep, nervous-system-based healing.
Therapy with Alex is warm, conversational, and real. She moves beyond traditional talk therapy by integrating EMDR to process painful memories, Parts Work to heal the internal critic, and DBT and mindfulness to provide immediate, practical tools for daily relief. This approach is designed to help you retrain your brain and body to feel safe again, ensuring that therapy feels both grounded and transformative. She meets every client with authenticity, maintaining a goal-oriented focus that supports meaningful and sustainable change.
Alex earned her M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from National Louis University and has over five years of specialized experience in the mental health field. Her clinical background includes four years at a nonprofit supporting survivors of sexual violence and time spent in substance abuse treatment centers. These experiences have deeply shaped her belief in every person’s capacity for resilience and inform her trauma-sensitive, collaborative approach.
Whether you are working through long-standing patterns or navigating a challenging season, Alex helps you make sense of your experiences and move forward with agency. Her mission is to help you turn down the volume on your distress, reconnect with your inner strength, and create a life that feels balanced, authentic, and aligned with your true self.
